Beach Tour
"A wonderful tour among the wild creeks in blue monochrome" Easy walk but
bring protection against sun and water. (3h)
From the hotel take the RN 196 towards Bonifacio, then after 2 miles at the edge of the town
take the D 48 on the right towards Tizzano. Once at the village, you may take a dirt track that leads to the punta di Capicciolu then go on foot to the Barcaju stream.
On the Barcaju beach under the shade of the tamarisk is a hint of the beauty that awaits you. In the clear sea air there is not a sound, except for the flight of the silver-breasted hooded crow. On the sand are the fresh tracks of birds rummaging for some washed up cuttlebone. Lined with cistus, wild lavender and thorny calycotome, the path gradually climbs up above the Cala di Barcaju. Then, like a mirror, appears the sapphire Tizzano gulf.
Further along you may reach the Murta Spana beach if you leave the path.
There you will find the immaculate white flowers of the sea lily. The ever-present granite
is streaked orange with iron residue.
Further along the path widens out, one hour later you will reach the first beach, spotted with Phoenician junipers tortured by the wind. From this point you will have to pay attention to direction as the dense scrub can be deceiving. The walk continues straight ahead in the small valley over a small beach. Here ouzels, thrushes, nuthatches (an endemic species), warblers and nightingales mix, as if protected by the colossal granite blocks.
Within 20 minutes you will arrive at the Cala Longa beach where the waters, like a lagoon, change from blue-green to turquoise to pastel green. The keener visitors may extend their walk by half an hour by continuing to the Tivella beach. Here you will find the stream with the same name separated by a sand dune, a pond lined with tamarisk, home to frogs, hairstreak butterflies and mosquitoes, and the beach. The seabed is astounding: the rocks house sea urchins, octopuses and sea bream. Over the sand dart the wrasse tinted with silver and turquoise flames. On the white sands of Tivella neptune seagrass dries out in the sun. In the distance you can see the Senetosa lighthouse and its 1,530 acres protected by the Coastal Conservatory. The path continues and leads directly to the Cala di Conca: a wild and practically inaccessible site, then from the Punta d'Eccica you will return in 2 ½ hours.
